This award was created to honor the many contributions that Harry E. Werkowski made to the Indiana Association of Sanitarians (IAS) which is now our Indiana Environmental Health Association (IEHA). It was also to serve as a standard to the level of achievement that the local environmental health specialists could reach through their respective chapters. In addition to his service and dedication to IAS, Harry also served as the Northwest Chapter President. He gave the ultimate gift of his life. He suffered a fatal heart attack prior to the Annual Educational Conference that he chaired, despite repeated warnings about his heart condition. Knowing his love and dedication to IAS, his family requested that his Award be buried with him. The intent of this award is to recognize the Chapter's contribution as a body to the Association. The intent is not to recognize individual member's or individual department's achievements.
